The Boone County Sheriff's Office is a top tier law enforcement organization. We are the only Sheriff’s Office in Missouri that has achieved two national accreditations from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for our law enforcement operations and from the National Institute for Jail Operations (NIJO) for our jail operations.
The staff at the Sheriff’s Office are dedicated to serving their community with the highest degree of professionalism and to serving the training needs of our law enforcement partners. We have been providing training to other law enforcement agencies since 2015 to help with the professional development of our law enforcement partners.
As part of its commitment to providing high quality training to other law enforcement agencies, we took over operations of the local law enforcement training academy in 2024. During the same year we received funding to develop a new Regional Training Center to further support the training mission for area law enforcement. That new facility is scheduled to open in late 2025.
The Sheriff’s Office is committed to supporting its staff. As part of that commitment, we are developing a childcare center for our employee’s and anticipate opening in 2026. The childcare center will operate 18 hours a day to ensure support for staff that work overnight hours.

Responsibilities: The Evidence Custodian takes custody of physical evidence held for investigations. Maintains the chain of custody, collects, receives, transports, stores, releases, and properly disposes of evidence and personal property held for safekeeping by the department.
Status: Full-time, non-exempt, benefited
Working hours: Primarily 8 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday - Friday
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and must be 21 years of age or older. Position requires a pre-employment drug test and the ability to pass an FBI fingerprint background check. Must have and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license. Must have ability to type 35 net wpm, possess vision to read a computer screen and printed materials as well as safely interact with the public, and possess hearing and speech abilities to communicate in person and over the telephone.
Preferred Qualifications: At least two (2) years’ relevant clerical experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Starting Hourly Pay: $18.24 per hour
