Responsibilities:
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls as part of a team handling over 80,000 incidents annually.
- Patrol diverse areas, including Portland’s historic downtown, residential neighborhoods, Peaks Island, and the Portland International Jetport.
- Engage with residents and businesses to foster trust through community policing initiatives.
- Participate in specialized units such as K9, Dive, Hazardous Devices, Crisis Negotiation, and Special Reaction Teams, or develop expertise in accident reconstruction, arson investigation, and victim services.
- Collaborate with state and federal agencies, including assignments to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency and FBI Safe Streets Task Force.
Qualifications:
- Strong commitment to integrity, service, and public safety.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and engage with diverse communities.
- A degree in Criminal Justice or related fields is preferred but not required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
You must be a high school graduate or equivalent and have either two years of post-high school employment or three years of post-high school education or a combination of education and employment totaling three years. You’ll need a valid driver’s license, good driving record, and good mental and physical condition.
