    After 5 years and 1 day of service: $110,405

    Additional education incentive pay is also available as follows:

    • 15 college credit hours - 0.5%

Entry-Level Police Officer Hiring Process

Chicago Heights Police Department

Chicago Heights, Illinois

The City of Chicago Heights, Illinois Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is accepting applications for the position of police officer with the Chicago Heights Police Department.

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the City of Chicago Heights, Illinois Board of Fire and Police Commissioners:

  • U.S. citizenship at the time of application
  • No felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral turpitude, as specified in 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6
  • High school diploma or High school equivalency/G.E.D. Certificate
  • Valid State-issued driver's license
  • Minimum of 21 years of age at the time of application -AND- must be UNDER 35 years of age at the time of application, EXCEPT applicants who are currently 20 years of age and have successfully completed two (2) years of law enforcement studies at an accredited college or university
  • Must reside within a 50 mile radius of the Chicago Heights Police Department, including the State of Indiana, within 12 months from date of employment. (Applicants do not need to currently reside in Chicago Heights to apply)
  • Will be required to complete:
    • oral interview
    • background investigation
    • psychological and polygraph examinations
    • pass a physical ability test
    • physical examination, including drug testing
  • Candidates will need to present a valid power card by an accredited organization (Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy, Joliet Junior College, or Triton College) issued within the last year. A valid power card is not necessary to apply for the position but one must be presented to the Commander of Investigations prior to the start of a background investigation. Candidates must also pass the P.O.W.E.R test at the beginning of their respective academy in accordance with academy rules.
