Description
Provide supervision over the health, welfare, and safety of inmates, staff and public within a secured jail facility with a 56 bed capacity. Position also ensures compliance with department policy and Department of Correction's standards for a county correctional facility.
Respond to medical emergencies within the facility.
Must be knowledgeable in all county and jail policies and procedures, and operations.
Must be proficient in the use of the jail and State computer.
Maintain safety and security in the jail. Must search inmates, property brought in, and the entire jail facility.
Have to be able to keep accurate logs, and updated files.
Verify, administer, and log medications.
Conduct daily indiscriminate strip searches of work release inmates upon return from work.
Monitor volunteers that come in to provide activities for the inmates.
See to the daily needs of the inmates.
Can be a bailiff for court at times, and make occasional transports.
Receive training in federal, state and local laws as they apply in law enforcement and detention facilities, including federal and state correction standards.
Miscellaneous duties assigned by department heads.
Minimum of 1 year post-secondary education in law enforcement, corrections, sociology, or related field and 2 years related experience OR
High School/GED Diploma and 4 years related experience.
Current First Responder Certification Preferred.
Ability to use judgment and problem solving skills in dealing with inmates.
Ability to react effectively in emergency and stressful situations.
Good written and verbal skills.
Ability to maintain a professional attitude.
Satisfactorily pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen, psychological evaluation and background investigation.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, law enforcement, other agencies, and the public.
Ability to develop skill in the use and care of county equipment used in the jail system.
Entry hiring range is $25.04 to $28.07 per hour, DOQ.
Earning potential up to $35.29 per hour.
Pays additional shift differentials.
12 paid holidays.
12 hour rotating shifts allows 7 out of 14 days off.
