Description
Under general supervision assists Senior Cook and prepares nutritious meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at the Ak-Chin Detention Facility. A minimum of one year of experience cooking for large groups of people is required. Must be able to read and follow basic menus as well as do basic math as related to cooking and food ordering. Must possess a valid Food Handler's Card and be CPR and First Aid certified OR be able to obtain within 90 days of hire date. Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License and be able to meet the Community's insurance carrier requirements. Must be able to successfully complete and pass a background check.
Assists in preparing and distributing monthly menus for healthy noonday meals using the Dietary Guideline for Americans as a guide.
Assists in preparing special program meals such as meals for individuals requiring special diets.
Assists Senior Cook with developing/planning food orders using a computer and maintains records for all orders and menus.
Assists in meal preparation to include following recipes, washing and cutting fruit/vegetables, as well as baking and preparing beverages.
Assists with kitchen cleanup, including operating commercial dishwasher and washing pots and pans.
Prepares meals in the Senior Cook's absence.
Ensures that all food safety guidelines provided by the Indian Health Service as well as guidelines from other funding agencies are met.
Assists in inventory of all kitchen food stock, equipment, and supplies.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge of grant funding and related special requirements.
Skill in following oral and written instructions, policies, and procedures.
Ability to problem solve efficiently and creatively.
Ability to handle multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
Ability to operate commercial type kitchen equipment and appliances.
Ability to create accurate reports.
Ability to work effectively as a team member.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, management, other department employees, outside agencies and the general public.
Salary
15.00 - 20.23 Hour
