Description

The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is hiring a Corrections Unit Supervisor to supervise divisional staff, establish and implement standards for staff performance, and provide quality assurance and training within the Adult Pre-Adjudication Services division. This position works with one co-supervisor responsible for the daily operation of the Pre-Trial unit, providing the 4th Judicial District with a bail evaluation report to assist court personnel with custody decisions. Additionally, the unit works closely within the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center processing defendants for release who have been placed on conditional release supervision. This position requires on-call off-duty premises responsibilities.

Location and hours: 
This position is hybrid and will be located at the Public Safety Facility at 401 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415. The unit is also responsible for pre-trial coverage at Division 2 (Brookdale) at 6125 Shingle Creek Parkway, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430, Division 3 (Ridgedale) at 12601 Ridgedale Drive, Minnetonka, MN 55305, and some remote work as job duties require. The unit operates Monday - Friday from 6 a.m. - Midnight and Saturday and Sunday from 1:30 p.m. - 10 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. New Employee Orientation (NEO) for all new benefit-earning employees is in-person in downtown Minneapolis. Details about NEO will be provided upon hire.

In this position, you will:

  • Manage the probation/parole agents including hiring, evaluating, and performance management.
  • Support Evidence Based Practices (EBP) efforts and effectively communicate and implement changes to the unit.
  • Serve as a resource across the department and promote excellent relationships with stakeholders and other criminal justice partners, including District Court, the Public Defender's Office, city and county prosecutors, and the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.
  • Facilitate staff meetings, case consultations, and unit specific trainings.
  • Provide leadership to further department-based strategies that align with county goals, mission, and core values for diversity, equity, and inclusion.


Need to have:

  • One of the following:
    • Seven years or more of full-time equivalent work experience as a probation/parole officer, correctional officer/juvenile correctional officer, sentencing to service crew leader, social worker, or a supervisor in a correctional or residential treatment setting.
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in criminal justice, behavioral/social science, social work, psychology, sociology, counseling, law enforcement, education, business, correctional or public administration or an equivalent field and three years or more of full-time equivalent work experience listed above.
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in a non-related field and four years or more of full-time equivalent work experience listed above.
    • Master's degree or higher in one of the above fields and two years or more of full-time equivalent work experience listed above.
    • Note: Completion of an Evidence-Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate from an approved school may be substituted for one year of relevant coursework or one year of relevant experience.
    • Note: Additional position related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.

  • Experience:
    • Using Evidence Based Practices (EBP) as it relates to providing services to probationers or in a correctional environment.
    • Supervising and leading employees or teams.
    • Working with people who are involved in the criminal justice system.
    • Writing reports or completing assessments used in the criminal justice system.
    • Applying Minnesota state statutes and rules of court for pre-trial court hearings.
    • Navigating cultural similarities and differences and the impacts of culture on service effectiveness, organizational effectiveness, and effective relationships with staff, partners, and those we serve.
    • Identifying and collaborating with community resources.
    • Developing disparity reduction programs within a corrections environment.
  • Experience or education around addressing racial equity, gender equity, LGBTQIA equity, neurodiversity equity, differing ability equity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook or a similar email system, and Court Services Tracking System (CSTS) or a similar information system.
  • Knowledge of the policies and procedures that govern the work done by Hennepin County Adult Services divisions.
  • Ability to:
    • Demonstrate a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work and interactions.
    • Actively contribute to creating a workplace that values diversity and inclusion.
    • Design and implement administrative methods and techniques.
    • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
