The Village of Barrington is a retail, commercial, and residential community located approximately 35 miles northwest of Chicago. The Barrington Police Department serves a population of 10,700 residents living in a 5.1 square-mile area.

The Barrington Police Department employs 25 sworn police officers who serve in various capacities such as administrative staff, investigations, patrol division, and school liaison officers.

Requirements:

• Must be age 21 at time of hire
• High school graduate or equivalent
• At least 60 hours of college credit
• Be a current, full-time sworn, municipal police officer, state trooper, or county sheriff’s deputy in good standing with current police agency
• Must possess substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a current Barrington police officer with the same experience
• Valid driver’s license (requires a valid Illinois driver’s license at date of hire)
• Must pass the police officer wellness (POWER) test administered by the Barrington Police Department
• Ability to furnish upon request a copy of the following:
• Professional licenses
• Training certificates
• Employee evaluations
• Other employment records requested

Phases of the selection process include a physical fitness test (POWER) and oral interviews. Applicants must pass the POWER test administered by the Barrington Police Department to be eligible to advance in the process.

Post-offer examinations at the time of hire, including but not limited to:

• Polygraph examination
• Psychological screening
• Physical examination
• Extensive background investigation
